For a great day out and a wonderful shopping experience just jump on the Explorer or link
bus,
or take the 10 minutes walk from Auckland CBD and you'll find Victoria Market.
Situated at 210 Victoria Street West, the market is built on the sight of the city's disused 'Rubbish Destructor' which used to house furnaces to burn the city's rubbish.
It's easy to find, just look out for the 125 foot tall brick chimney.
You'll find all sorts of great products at Victoria market including
fruit and vegetables,
arts, crafts, clothes, flowers and of course, New Zealand souveniers. There's a good choice of cafés and restaurants around the area so you won't go hungry. You'll discover a huge selection of foods from around the world, so whether you're into burgers and hotdogs or curry and rice you won't be disappointed.
Looking for touristy things to take home with you ? You'll be spoiled for choice here. Look out for the local wood crafts, paintings, jewellery, pottery and glassware. New Zealand's pure natural products such as
manuka honey,
fruit jams and health food products are all to be found here and are especially recommended. At weekends, holidays and lunch times you'll be entertained with live music and entertainment to make your whole experience even more enjoyable. Car parking is available and there's good access for wheelchair users. The market is open 7 days a week from 9am to 6pm and admission is free.
