The 93 acre
Puriri Hills Vineyard and Lodge
owned and run by Judy Fowler is near to the village of Clevedon just half an hour southeast of the city of Auckland.
Established in 1999, the vineyard produces blended red wines inspired by the Merlot and Cabernet Franc wines of Pomerol and St Emilion in Bordeaux.
The vines are tended and picked by hand and the wine is fermented in open topped fermenters.
The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 18 to 22 months and for at least another six months in the bottle before being released.
The view from the house is spectacular. Looking north across the islands of the Hauraki Gulf towards the Coromandel Peninsula and east to the Wairoa River Valley and the Hunua Ranges.
