Auckland Region Vineyards

Home > Auckland Region Vineyards

If like me you have a passion for wine you must find the time to visit some of the many Auckland region vineyards, home to excellent, world class, award-winning red and white New Zealand wines.

The perfect compliment to the varied Kiwi recipes on offer.

The Auckland region in particular is home to some of New Zealand's best known vineyards and has been producing fine New Zealand wines since the mid 1800s.

You'll discover more than 80 beautiful wine estates around the region producing world class wines. You definitely have to take advantage of the winery and vineyard tours on offer in the area.

The main white wines are Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Chardonnay. The main reds are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.

In the west and to the north-west of Auckland you will find the oldest of the Auckland region vineyards, some of which still belong to the original founding families.

Some of the larger ones are wine tasting vineyards and have excellent restaurants where you can enjoy the world renowned Pacific Rim cuisine, quality wines, stunning views and that world famous Kiwi hospitality.

Some of the well known vineyards in the area well worth visiting are Karaka Point Vineyard, Puriri Hills Vineyard and Lodge, Twilight vineyard and Coopers Creek Winery.

Another experience not to be missed is the Devonport Food and Wine Festival in Auckland which takes place in the third weekend of February every year.

The festival is a highly significant social event with exhibitors from all over the country demonstrating a superb collection of wines and a wide array of exotic culinary dishes.

Also around this time, generally the second saturday in February is the Kumeu Wine and Food Festival.

This festival brings together the region's finest wineries, puts on quality entertainment and provides local food and market stalls for all ages to enjoy.

Take a day trip out to Waiheke Island, famous for its red wines, the perfect destination for wine enthusiasts.

Only a 45 minute ferry ride away from Auckland, the island is home to the many scenic Waiheke vineyards and acclaimed boutique wineries overlooking the golden beaches and the Hauraki Gulf.

We visited the picturesque 'Mudbrick' winery and vineyard where we had a really enjoyable time sitting in the restaurant, sampling some of the best wines of New Zealand in the very place they are produced.

Tempted ? Try some of the excellent wines and wine products from New Zealand. We can highly recommend 'Products from New Zealand.' They have an extensive range of New Zealand made products to choose from and will deliver direct to your door anywhere in the world.
